OUR SUMMER
PROGRAM
The Summer program is divided into preschool and school age. The program operates from 6:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. for nine weeks during the summer.
Preschool children are 2-5 years of age. These children have not completed kindergarten. The preschool summer program is thematic and very similar in format to that offered during the school year. The major difference is the emphasis on outdoor activities. Field trips are weekly and include swimming.
School Age Children are those children between Kindergarten and 7th grade. Children who have not started Kindergarten are to be registered for the summer with the preschool department.
The summer program is composed of Academic Enrichment, Arts and Crafts, Cooking, Field Trips and other on-site camp-like activities. Children will spend time Mon-Thurs. working to reinforce their cognitive learning and preparing them for the new school year.
Typical field trips include swimming, bowling, roller skating, national zoo, etc. A calendar with exact trips is presented every two weeks. The cost for all field trips with the exception of Six Flags of America is included in a onetime activity fee.
In addition, the summer program focuses on health and fitness in accordance with First Lady Michelle Obama’s initiatives. Children participate in healthy cooking and eating in concert with the guidelines of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
The highlight of the summer school age program is the performing arts production at the end of the summer. Students prepare to present, design the set, advertize the production and further developing their potential for this performance.
The children are very busy learning and having fun in an environment which fosters their continued growth and development.
